AUSTRALIA - Military - World War II Period |
1081818 | ✉ | A- | 1941 air cover to Camberwell, Vic. with '3dAirFeePaid' and 'H.M. TRANSPORT' on face both in violet. Unusually a 3d blue KGVI has later been applied and cancelled with a 'DON'T WRITE/ABOUT SHIPS' slogan, without datehead, purple boxed 'AUSTRALIAN IMPERIAL/FORCE/PASSED BY CENSOR/509' also on face. An usual rate marking. Presumably the ship ran out of stamp, used the '3dAirFeePaid' handstamp to indicate that the postage had been paid. And then used the 3d to pay for a stamp when they received new stocks.
